Schools Within Schools

Each student belongs to one of 4 small schools, East Hill, Firehills, Silverhill and West Hill.

What this means

Within a school, each student is a member of a tutor group. The tutor groups contain about 15 students of different ages. This size and structure enables students to be known really well by their Tutors and to mix with students in different year groups. The mixing of age groups allows buddy support for reading, independent study and developing social skills.

Each school is led by a Head of School, a senior member of staff. An Assistant Head of School monitors attendance and punctuality, behaviour and readiness to learn. The school’s Student Support Manager, a non–teaching member of staff, is available throughout the day to support students and families. These staff, with the Tutors, work with our students to enable them to make best possible progress.

A further key strength of this small school model is the support it offers to students when they move from primary school.

Welcome to East Hill School

Named after the ancient cliffs and grassland which is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument because of the Iron Age Hill Fort that once overlooked the busy Hastings port c400BC. A windmill also existed near the cliffs. The cliff railway or lift is also located on East Hill.

The East Hill tutor team is made up from teachers as well as Teaching Assistants who support their students to make good to outstanding academic progress by providing a high level of pastoral support. The Academy's motto is "PRIDE Through Success" and each and every day our tutors strive to support all students through:

Potential - within our community, we support each other to do the best we possibly can

Respect - to understand and appreciate our religious and cultural differences and to acknowledge that these differences make us a stronger and more resilient community

Innovation - to be creative and to think 'outside the box'

Determination - to never give up but to work with others to realise individual and collective goals

Excellence - to be exemplary in everything that we do in school as well as outside the school. Education at The Hastings Academy is more than getting a good set of qualifications, important as that is, we take as much care and attention to developing life skills that will enable all of our students to make informed decisions about their future education and career.

We aim to make sure every child makes a success of their time in school and goes beyond their expected progress. Like the image of the East Hill as it stands proud in Hastings, we aim for our school and all the students within it to be leading by example. The school ethos can be summed up in the following words:

"Together in progress and success"

Welcome to Firehills School

We are named after the large area of gorse and heathland to the East of Hastings which has for generations been an area of outstanding natural beauty as part of the Hastings Country Park. The name is thought to be a local term for the area derived from the regular fires in the dry gorse in the summertime.

The Firehills tutor team is made up from teachers as well as Teaching Assistants who support their students to make good to outstanding academic progress by providing a high level of pastoral support. The Academy's motto is "PRIDE Through Success" and each and every day our tutors strive to support all students through:
